Mount batten, Governor General of India handed over the power to first
Indian cabinet headed by Prime minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru.
There were 14 members in the first union council of Independent India.
Members of the first Cabinet of Independent India, who took the
oath of office on the 15th of August, 1947.

Dr. John Mathai became Minister of Finance, Railway and Transport followed
by Shanmugam Chetty on September 1948.K.C Neogy took ministry of Relief
and Rehabilitation on September 1947 and Jayaramdas Doulathram as
minister of Food and Agriculture followed by Dr. Rajendra Prasad.This
interim government existed till elected government came into power
after first general electon in 1952.
