General Bikram Singh  Appointed as New Chief Of The Indian Army.
General Bikram Singh assumed charge on May 31,2012 as the Chief of Army Staff. He became the 25th chief of the world's second-largest army. He is second Sikh to be Chief of Indian army, the first having been General J. J. Singh.He will hold the post till august 31,2014.
D.K. Joshi, next Indian Navy chief
Vice-Admiral DK Joshi has been named as the next chief of naval staff who will succeed Admiral Nirmal Verma, who retires on August 31,2012. Admiral Joshi, the present Western Naval Command chief.
Kyoto Prize 2012
America’s Ivan Sutherland( advanced technology), Japan’s Yoshinori Ohsumi (work in the basic sciences). India’s Gayatri Spivak, (arts and philosophy) wins Kyoto prize. It is Japan’s highest private award for global achievement.

Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar  took oath as a Rajya Sabha member. Sachin is the first active sportsperson and cricketer to have been nominated to the Rajya Sabha under the Prominent Citizens Quota.

Kolkata won the tournament beating Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets.
Saina Nehwal wins Thai Open and Indonesian Open
Saina Nehwal beats Ratchanok Inthanon in Thailand open and she also has clinched her third Indonesia Open Super Series title after she beat Li Xuerui of China.

New Zealand win Azlan Shah Cup

New Zealand beat Argentina 1-0.

Sekhar Basu appointed BARC Director

Sekhar Basu, Chief Executive, Nuclear Recycle Board of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Trombay, took over as Director of BARC from Ratan Kumar Sinha . Mr. Sinha became Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission.
